BROOKINGS, S.D.—The artwork of professional sculptor Dale Lamphere will be featured Nov. 12 through March 14, 2004 at the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings. Lamphere is nationally recognized for his work with design, sculpture, and architecture throughout the United States. His interpretations of the environment are molded in stone, cast bronze, stainless steel and other materials. Lamphere works out of his home in Sturgis. In his 33-year career, he has created more than 40 public works ranging from monumental landscapes to human forms to abstract. “I enjoy human form and the human face,” said Lamphere. “The common thread in my sculpture is starting with the formal qualities. I think in abstract terms first, then add the narrative quality, always pursuing structure before getting into detail.” An artists’ reception will be held for Lamphere, photographer Jayne Erickson and oil painter Denise DuBroy from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Art Museum, with an artists’ talk at 5:30 p.m. The works of Erickson and DuBroy are on exhibition through Jan. 25 as part of the South Dakota Artist Series. This event is free and open to the public. South Dakota Arts Council support is provided with funds from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts. Admittance is free to the South Dakota Art Museum, located on Medary
Avenue at Harvey Dunn Street on the SDSU campus in Brookings. The Museum
is closed holidays and open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
